Tracy Mort MBE
The year was 2007, and the beauty company Tracy was working for had gone into administration. Tracy decided to use the skills and contacts she had built up to go it alone and founded Grace Cole.
Just 18 months in, following reports in the media that UK manufacturing was in serious decline, Tracy set herself a new mission: to bring manufacturing back to Britain.
She sources British suppliers and investment, and Grace Cole now sells its award-winning bath, body and beauty products in more than 80 countries. Shifting the manufacturing process back to Britain has allowed the company to improve its speed to market, quality control, as well as supporting small local and national companies.
Central to overcoming the challenges she faced establishing a new brand in the ultra-competitive cosmetics sector was the working culture she instilled. Tracy ensures that employees see a clear progression within the company, from buying assistants to senior management. Allied to an enthusiastic and passionate workforce, it has ensured that Grace Cole has experienced explosive growth.
Tracy was awarded an MBE for services to the economy in 2013 and Grace Cole was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2015 for international trade and striving to onshore the majority of its manufacturing.
Her ambitions for the company are global: she wants Grace Cole to become a household brand, sold in every country, and has aggressive plans to triple business over the course of the next five years with ambitions to float one day.
