CEO, The House of St Barnabas
Sandra Schembri is Chief Encouragement Officer of The House of St Barnabas, a charity pledging to break the cycle of homelessness and social exclusion. St Barnabas is the patron saint of encouragement, and this underpins everything the organisation does.
The House of St Barnabas runs a social enterprise, a not-for-profit members’ club in London with an integrated Employment Academy that offers training, on-site work experience, accredited qualifications and mentoring. Participants on the employment programme benefit from the skills and confidence gained through working in a thriving business, whilst perceptions of homelessness are broken down. Those using the club are unable to differentiate between staff and participants learning on the job.
The House of St Barnabas brings together luxury and charity, business and purpose, inclusivity and exclusivity, all in a unique Georgian townhouse in Soho. With a diverse and vibrant membership the team is building a community of people committed to changing the world for the better, actively encouraging members to meet, connect and collaborate.
“The House of St Barnabas is a living, learning experiment in how business and purpose can work in harmony to produce magic that changes people’s lives,” says Sandra Schembri, “I am very proud of the culture we are building at The House of St Barnabas both within the team and the social business.”
