CEO, Comic Relief
Before joining Comic Relief as Chief Executive Officer in 2016, Liz was the Founder and CEO of television production company, betty. She led betty for more than 13 years, building it from a startup, to one of the UK’s top 30 independent companies. Under Liz’s creative leadership, betty won a number of awards including an Emmy for Forgiven, and two BAFTA nominations for the ground-breaking Channel 4 series The Undateables.
Before betty, Liz held senior commissioning roles at both Channel 4 and the BBC. Her programming credits contemporary documentaries, features, factual drama and factual entertainment, much of it infused with social purpose.
In her role as CEO, Liz brings her commitment to social issues, creative vision and storytelling skills, to help take Comic Relief into its next chapter focusing on innovation, youth and relevance. She is passionate about bringing the fringe of society to mainstream and engaging new audiences.
Comic Relief was founded in 1985, with the vision of a world free from poverty – bringing an anarchic, original and comedic tone to fundraising, unseen before in the UK. Since its launch it has raised over £1bn for projects here in the UK and Internationally.
