Leon Ward

Leon-Ward-headshot-MVK-PROFILEAuthor, trustee and advisor, Leon Ward is a young veteran of the third sector.

Leon is an international campaigner whose work has focused on the Commonwealth and minority and marginalised groups. In particular, he has worked with LGBT youth, those in the justice system, disabled people, carers and those who are cared for.

He is a founding member of the Commonwealth Youth Gender and Equality Network. In 2015, he published the Young Trustees Guide in partnership with the Charities Aid Foundation.

In 2014, Leon joined the board of Brook, the UK’s largest young people’s sexual health charity. For 50 years, the charity has provided sexual health services, support and advice to young people under the age of 25. It makes free and confidential sexual health and wellbeing services available for nearly 250,000 young people UK-wide, each year.

As a board member himself, Leon speaks from experience when he says that they are ripe for disruption. He believes that a range of ages and backgrounds has to be represented an organisation’s board so that they can benefit from ‘free thinking’ and gain insight from a number of viewpoints.

Leon was recently elected the UK Young Ambassador to the Commonwealth.
