Laura IH Bennett
Private Sector Board Member, Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership
Laura IH Bennett sits on the board of Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which sets the strategic direction for the region. Its aim is to drive economic growth and create new jobs. She says she was inspired to take up the voluntary position because of the opportunity to attract exciting firms to the region and consequently create high-value jobs.
Her proudest achievement? Being able to combine her educational aspirations with her professional ones: “Being accepted to pursue a PhD in entrepreneurial ecosystems at Sheffield University Management School is something I’m incredibly proud of. It complements my role on the LEP board perfectly and having an insight into policy will help my academic research.” She has also worked in Gaza, where she guided Palestinian startup founders.
“We need to celebrate and support a range of communities,” she adds. “The projects that make a city vibrant are the ones borne out of people’s passion to make a difference – it’s about recognising their hard work and dedication.”
