Founder and CEO, Epos Now
If you’ve worked on a till in the past five years or spotted the software used by the person scanning your shopping, chances are you’ve encountered Epos Now. Launched in 2011 by Jacyn Heavens, Epos Now is the biggest electronic ‘point of sale’ (POS) software service of its kind. It is used by more than 30,000 retail and hospitality businesses in the UK and around the world.
In just five years, the organisation has grown from a team of five to one of over 300, it has achieved annual turnovers worth millions and recently expanded into the US. Epos Now has its sights set on breaking into Australia and Germany. Along the way, Jacyn has leveraged the power of cloud technology to keep the service affordable for SMEs – in doing so, helping boost the chances of smaller businesses to survive on the UK high street.
Jacyn cites his proudest achievement as “creating the UK’s first POS application store, which received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation in 2016. The award recognised his contributions to the sector in providing affordable, customisable cloud-based software and hardware.”
His advice to budding entrepreneurs is: “Keep it simple and stay agile. Prove the model with minimum investment in case you have to pivot.”
