As commercial director of Ecolution Group, Gillian Stewart is playing a leading role in changing how the construction industry operates. “In a typical year, we install enough renewable technology to offset the emissions of 14,000 flights to New York,” she says.
Ecolution is a “specialist buildings services business, focused on design and installation of new technologies for the construction sector, as well as maintenance of new tech for social landlords, businesses and private clients”.
The impact of its work extends well beyond bricks and mortar, though. The technologies that Ecolution designs and delivers help to “provide clean, sustainable energy, drive down CO2 emissions and tackle fuel poverty”.
This progress has been made possible by an internal culture that is focused on innovation and delivery. “We have a strong, entrepreneurial culture with staff empowered to take responsibility and decisions,” she says. “We expect a lot of each other and in return we share the rewards of our success, and an immense pride and respect for our team.”
“We work with schools and colleges to educate and engage young people”
Ecolution, which was founded in 1999, incubated last year and launched two new businesses, one of which “landed almost £1 million in orders during its first quarter of trading”.
For Gillian, a vibrant economy is about businesses that grow fast, invest in future talent and make a difference. “We’re growing, creating jobs and improving the quality of air that we breathe. We also have an apprentice programme. We work with schools and colleges to educate and engage young people – and to inspire the next generation of new tech heating and electrical specialists.”
