Blue Badge is a Bristol-based business that makes and designs covers and accessories for display wallets for motorists. Under CEO Ellen Green, the company has secured partnerships with WH Smith, Boots and the Post Office. Since its creation six years ago, it has sold more than 100,000 units.
Ellen believes the secret to her success is Blue Badge’s commitment to its employees. “I really believe that a company is only as strong as the team behind it and I’m committed to creating new jobs for those that find it difficult to access employment”.
As disabled people are the company’s target market, Ellen is dedicated to making sure that Blue Badge goes the extra mile in targeting them as employees. More than 50% of her workforce are either registered disabled or a primary carer for someone with a disability. Employees benefit from flexible hours and the option to work from home. Ellen’s devotion to the cause is reflected in very low staff turnover, which she credits with helping the company achieve strong financial goals.
When asked for the advice she would give to her younger self, Ellen replies: “Learn to love rejection! There is plenty of it and if you are going to succeed in business you must learn to react positively to even the most negative situations.”
