CEO, Abode Impact
There are over 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK and a requirement for tens of thousands of accessible homes to rent. As CEO of Abode Impact, Eleanor Bowden is helping spearhead efforts to improve wheelchair users’ experience with the housing market. She leads Abode Impact, a social initiative that raises institutional investment to buy and rent wheelchair accessible homes.
Eleanor believes that the project will increase choice in the housing market, as well as vastly improve quality of life for tenants. However, she acknowledges that challenges lie ahead. “This work – changing the status quo – is a rollercoaster. It can be invigorating, but it can also be draining.”
By appealing to large-scale institutions, high net worth individuals and government bodies, Abode hopes to make its initial purchases in the first half of next year.
As for her number one piece of advice, she says, “Someone once said to me businesses should provide goods that are truly good, and services that truly serve. It is my personal belief that this is the core backbone of business.”
