Darren Westlake and Luke Lang
Luke Lang and Darren Westlake are breaking down the barriers that block everyday investors from getting a piece of tomorrow’s breakout business stars. The disruptive duo created Crowdcube in the midst of the global recession, to offer an equity crowdfunding service for early-stage growth businesses.
“My vision was to enable everyday people to invest and share in the success of ambitious, high-growth companies they believe in,” says Darren. Luke and Darren have made equity crowdfunding mainstream since launching in 2011, giving entrepreneurs more ways to raise funds and giving normal people the chance to build their investment portfolios.
Since it began in 2011, Crowdcube has helped more than 600 companies successfully raise capital; to date, a total of £390 million has been invested on the platform by a 500,000-strong collective of investors.
Asked for what he considers essential for a vibrant economy, Luke says, “It is vital talented entrepreneurs in a range of sectors, from fintech to food, get access to growth capital so they can invest in their team, brand and products that can act as a catalyst for not just their growth but also for the wider UK economy.”
