Dame Helena Morrissey CBE
Founder, 30% Club
Dame Helena Morrissey is one of the most influential women in the UK’s financial sector. She was named in the Queen’s Honours List this year, shortly after taking a new role as head of personal investing at Legal & General. But it is her role as chief executive of Newton Investment Management, which she held for 15 years, and her founding of the 30% Club, for which she is best known.
The 30% Club launched as a campaign in the UK in 2010 with a goal of achieving a minimum of 30% women on FTSE-100 boards. So far, the 30% Club has helped increase the percentage by 12.5% – taking the total to 27%. Having almost achieved its original goal, the vision of the Club has been extended to encompass women in executive roles and internationally, with ten 30% Clubs throughout the world. Helena has also established the Diversity Project to improve diversity in all its dimensions within the investment industry.
