Managing Director, Triodos Bank UK
Bevis Watts is looking to lead banking in a new direction. As Managing Director of one of Europe’s most sustainable banks, Bevis oversees a bank that considers sustainability, social equality and transparency in every aspect of its work.
The philosophy behind the bank is to deploy finance as a force for good. “We only use money for positive social, environmental and cultural projects and are transparent in publishing every loan we make,” Bevis says. “If you think about it, Triodos isn’t just a bank: we’re changing the way banking is done”. Typical lending targets for Triodos include organic farming, renewable energy and social care projects.
After first joining as Head of Business Banking in 2008, Bevis led a trebling of the bank’s support of sustainable businesses over 5 years. His return to the bank in 2016 has seen the launch of the UK’s most sustainable current account, making cards out of a plant derived plastic.
His key business advice is to “follow your heart”.
