CEO, Church Commissioners for England
Andrew Brown is CEO of Church Commissioners for England – a charity investor that supports the mission of the Church of England. Their role is multiple: to help fund pensions for the clergy; financially support the work of bishops, archbishops and cathedrals; to help fund the church at parish level; and to run the clergy payroll.
When asked what his greatest achievement was, Andrew replied: “achieving greater collaboration between different parts of a very diverse and dispersed group of organisations.” He sees the role as “an opportunity to combine my Christian faith with my skillset to help support the mission of the Church of England.”
Under Andrew’s leadership, the organisation has undergone considerable change; recently it has been involved with the Church of England’s wider ‘Renewal and Reform’ programme. It aims to invigorate the Church by encouraging its broader ministry and activities, aiming to facilitate its growth, contribution and role in the wider community.
When it comes to his piece of advice, Andrew reflects on the benefits of hindsight: ‘Working harder at school would have saved lots of effort later.”
